Frequently asked questions

The studio has four tabs: Merge, Split, Rotate, and Watermark. Merge combines files, Split extracts selected page ranges into a new PDF, Rotate sets every page to 90, 180, or 270 degrees, and Watermark draws text across every page. The tabs share one page but run as separate jobs.

Merge accepts 2 to 20 PDF files, with a 10 MB limit per file, a 100 MB combined limit, and a 200-page limit across the output. Files are combined in the order shown. There is no drag reorder control, so remove a file and add it again if it belongs in a different position.

Load one PDF up to 10 MB and enter a range such as 1-3,5. The tool validates the range when you click Split, then copies those pages into one new PDF. It does not support an every-Nth rule, separate files per range, or live validation while you type.

No. Merge changes the order of whole files, and Split selects pages in the order you specify, but the studio does not provide a page thumbnail editor or drag-and-drop page sorting. For a custom sequence, extract the pages you need and merge the resulting files in the desired order.

Merge attempts to load with encryption ignored, so a protected file may parse but still fail when its pages are copied. Split, Rotate, and Watermark use a normal load and generally need the file unlocked first. Remove the owner password in a trusted PDF application before using these views.

Do not rely on it. Pages are copied into a new document, which can drop outlines, form behavior, signatures, and other document-level features. Text on ordinary pages usually remains selectable. Inspect the downloaded file before sending it to a client or filing it as a final record.

Enter text, choose diagonal, center, top-left, top-right, bottom-left, or bottom-right, and adjust opacity. The mark uses 48 pt Helvetica Bold in gray and is applied to every page. Watermarking does not support page ranges, images, custom fonts, or color selection.

How to use PDF Merge & Organizer

  1. Pick a view: Choose Merge, Split, Rotate, or Watermark from the tab bar. Each view has its own file picker and controls.
  2. Load the PDFs: For Merge, add 2 to 20 files. For the other views, choose one PDF up to 10 MB and enter a page range when needed.
  3. Set the options: Arrange merge order by adding and removing files, type ranges such as 1-3,5, choose a rotation angle, or enter watermark text and opacity.
  4. Run and inspect: Click the action button, download the result, and open it to confirm page order, orientation, watermark placement, and any lost form features.

In-depth guide

What the PDF organizer covers

PDF Merge and Organizer puts four common local jobs behind one tab bar. Merge joins 2 to 20 PDFs into a single document. Split copies chosen pages from one PDF into a new file. Rotate changes the orientation of every page to 90, 180, or 270 degrees. Watermark writes a text label across every page at an adjustable opacity. Each view validates the basic file type and 10 MB size limit before work starts. Merge also checks the PDF header, caps the batch at 100 MB, and stops if the combined page count would exceed 200. The other views do not impose the 200-page ceiling, so a large but small-in-bytes PDF may take longer to process. Nothing is sent to a server; the page loads pdf-lib in the browser and builds a download locally.

How the four views behave

Merge processes the list from top to bottom. It does not offer drag handles, and it does not show a page total before you run the job. Remove a file and add it again to change the sequence. Split accepts comma-separated pages and ranges such as 1-3,5, validates boundaries on submit, and writes the selected pages in the given order. Rotate sets each page rotation to the chosen angle rather than adding to the existing rotation. Watermark draws a 48 pt Helvetica Bold label in gray and supports six preset positions, including a diagonal center mark. Encrypted PDFs are inconsistent: Merge tries to ignore encryption, while the other views use the normal loader. Unlock protected files first for predictable output. Copied pages can lose bookmarks, form fields, and signatures, so check the result before relying on it.

Worked example and limits

Merge a cover, a 12-page chapter, and an 8-page appendix to produce a 20-page file. Use Split with 13-20 to pull the appendix into its own PDF, rotate a sideways scan by 90 degrees, then apply a diagonal DRAFT watermark at low opacity. If the merged result must be reordered, remove the wrong file and add it again in the correct position. For a 300-page manual, the page ceiling applies only to Merge; use Split to extract manageable sections and merge those sections separately. Very large jobs can still be slow on phones. The studio does not edit text, add page numbers, compress images, remove passwords, or preserve every interactive feature. For image creation, use Image to PDF; for text extraction, use PDF to Text.
